Blue Monday

Feeling a little more down than usual today?

The reason may be because it is "Blue Monday" which is reported to be the most depressing day of the year.

Who knew, it was not just a song by New Order?

The idea of Blue Monday was first published in 2005 by Cliff Arnall. By using weather conditions, debt levels, days since Christmas, motivational levels and the feeling to take action he deteremined the bluest day of the year.

Basically this means that it's cold and rainy, the holiday cheer has worn off, you have broken your resolution and the bills for Christmas have come in. He has determined that usually the 3rd Monday of January is the most depressing day of the year. Well I guess it's good to get it out of the way early in the year.

If Blue Monday has got you down, here are a few things that can brighten your day...

  • Book your summer vacation. There is nothing like having some sun and fun to look forward to.
  • Make it a Monday movie night. Why wait for Friday. You already broke your resolution so order that yummy pizza and watch your favorite flick cuddled in a warm blanket.
  • Do a good deed. Nothing makes you feel better than doing for someone else.
  • If you can get some sun, get some sun. When your body is low on Vitamin D you can feel depressed. A dose of some Vitamin D could really help boost your happiness.
  • And speaking of the D, get yourself some! Yes I am talking about sex. That's right a roll in the hay will definitely leave you happy.
