Family Resolutions

Resolutions are a big part of the New Year. People vow to lose weight or eat better. We think about ways that we can improve ourselves. How about ways we can improve as a family? Here are some ideas for family resolutions for the new year.

- Get outside more! Make a plan to take walks. Go to the park more often, even if it's just for 30 minutes. The fresh air, sunshine and Vitamin D will make everyone feel better and even sleep better. You will be surprised how your kids will open up while out on a stroll.

- No phones at dinner! Technology has taken over. How many dinners have you been to where everyone's face is buried behind a phone. Make a resolution to make dinner a "tech-free" zone. Just remind everyone that those tweets and Facebook status updates will be there after dinner.

- Read more together. If your kids are really young read them a picture book. If they are a bit older with a longer attention span read a chapter book to them. Books like the Ramona series and the Roald Dahl books are super fun. If your kids are reading chapter books on their own read a book together. You can even read on your own and find some time to get together and talk about the story. Your very own family book club! You can also plan weekly family library trips!

- Cook together. Make a resolution to make dinner a family affair from start to finish. Get together to plan the weekly family dinner menu and grocery list. Have everyone help prepare the meal. This will help your family get some bonding time doing something that has to be done anyways. It will always make sure that your family is eating a healthy home cooked meal.
